Alvin Singleton Forum at Juilliard; "Sing to the Sun" Released on Albany Records

February 1, 2007

Alvin Singleton’s music will be subject du jour at The Juilliard School on February 12. A forum entitled "Perspectives on African American-Composers" led by conductor James DePriest and Juilliard President Joseph Polisi will address the influence of Singleton’s work on contemporary music composition, with Alvin Singleton participating. Rounding out the event will be interspersed performances by Juilliard Students of Singleton works Argoru III, Jasper Drag, and Argoru VII.

The forum marks the second opportunity in as many months to hear Singleton speak about his musical life. Last month the composer served as panelist in a lively opening session of Chamber Music America’s annual conference called “Creative Music—Discordant Times.”

On February 1, 2007, Alvin Singleton’s newest CD “Sing to the Sun” is released on Albany Records. The all-Singleton disc includes the works Greed Machine, Argoru II, Sing to the Sun, Apple and Fifty Times Around the Sun.
